Our municipality is too small to get these targets although we are on track to grow by over 5000 homes (including rentals) over the next three years. We’ve managed to clear up the backlog in our “growth department” but now we see development stalling due to the cost of borrowing and the cooling of the housing market. We’re approving development and working hard to grow but we can’t force approved developments to put shovels in the ground. High cost of living, high cost of borrowing and the cost of raw materials are all beyond our control. However, we’re down here at the AMO Conference looking for funding sources for our growth, waterfront re-development and to replace our aging infrastructure.

  1. Hi Bill, I bet none of the 5000 hones in the hopper will be for people with modest means like young families, people on fixed incomes, and seniors. We need to try harder to get homes built to address the real needs of our folks. Other small municipalities have done it, why not Midland?

  2. hI SOUNDS LIKE A ONE SIDED PLAN, IF YOU ARE A big …………. YOU CAN GET MONEY, IT SHOULD BE FOR AN ANY SIZE TOWN, YOU WILL GET SOME MONEY, BASED ON THE UNITS YOU CAN BUILD. GOOD LUCK AT THE MEETINGS, ROD

  3. Mayor Gordon, thanks to your progressive thinking we are finally in our homes.
    Thank You
