What is my position on important town issues? There are MANY important issues that we will face in this term, and of those, the top four are community safety and downtown, the King Street Rejuvenation (Big Dig), Midland Bay Landing waterfront and affordable housing. Tough decisions ahead and we need a good team at the rudder of the “good ship Midland” and finding ways to pay for all this without hammering the community with unsustainable tax increases.
I am supportive of responsible development at Midland Bay Landing, however, it has been 10 years since it has received public input, bringing it out for review would allow us to ensure that it meets the needs of our present-day community.
A pause will give us a clear mandate to move forward with a revised waterfront plan more reflective of our community’s desire for a premiere, four-season, accessible, public access waterfront on Georgian Bay.
The image at Midland Bay Landing has been updated to include graphic details that I have never seen before and were not released publicly. The waterfront “townhomes” are now clearly present along with the park which I will dub “Concession Park” but there is something glaringly missing… parking. Where do our residents park to enjoy “Concession Park”?
It’s been tried before and didn’t find its legs. As part of my mission to make Town Hall and our council more collaborative and to help our decision making, I believe it’s time to re-engage our youth in decisions that impact their “future Midland”.
There won’t be any live Q&A from the public and all the questions go to us in advance. This is going to be very scripted. You may want to get your questions in ASAP regardless. It’s sad that this will be zoom rather than in person. I really was looking forward to meeting both supporters and those who wish to challenge my positions on matters impacting our beautiful Town!
