Fred Flood Remembered

Listen to this article

18-Apr-1946 – 26-Oct-2023 Fred served his community for many years as Clerk and later Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Midland. He had a passion for sports and recreation, and considered one of his greatest professional accomplishments to be helping in the creation of the North Simcoe Sport and Recreation Centre, where he was inducted into the Midland Sports Hall of Fame.

Over the past a few years, Fred was in regular contact with both Deputy Mayor Contin and I about the future of Midland Bay Landing and was so happy to see the old plans change to see us pursuing parkland instead of housing on the east side of the property and was looking forward to participating in the public consultation that will come when reviewing design options. I know that he will be cheering us on in spirit. Fred was thoughtful, curious, and imaginative. I’ll miss our many chats about the importance of keeping the “good ship Midland” on course to prosperity and will continue to honour my pledge to that goal. Rest in peace Fred and thank you for your wisdom and your service.

A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, November 30 from 5:00-7:00 at the North Simcoe Sport and Recreation Centre.

  1. Very thoughtful comments on the life of a dedicated public servant; he served Midland very well!
I worked with Fred as a new councilor. He made sure new councilors knew the job, and always welcomed questions.
Some former councilors, including myself, met Fred for lunch, as recently as July. He was upbeat and optimistic as always; this is how we will remember him.
