I am glad to see the comparison work being done by staff rather than engaging yet more consultants. The job of polling other like-sized municipalities to see if the council pay is average, excessive or inadequate is a task we can easily expect staff to do. Sometimes it is easier to use a consultant to deliver potentially unwelcomed news since it can deflect any criticism about the findings. I hope and trust that the evidence they bring us will speak for itself and that nobody will try to “shoot the messenger”. I have faith in them and the process.
